I just taught a three hour seminar on the straight ankle lock at Artemis BJJ in Bristol. The seminar was in support of Suicide Prevention Bristol which is the charity that is being supported by the 2021 Grapplethon. All donations made by those attending my seminar go to the charity. You can still support the cause by donating to my JustGiving Page (especially if you liked the video of my seminar).
You can see more of my Leg Locking journey over on my YouTube channel here.
My huge thanks to all those who attended – over 30 students were present from white belt beginners to experienced black belts. We raised £580 on the day. On top of that, my fundraising Heavenly Mata Leao art print sale raised £920. Adding all the funds raised by everyone on the Grapplethon Team, together we have raised a total of £2,740 for Suicide Prevention Bristol!
The seminar I taught included a lot of my most-used and favoured straight ankle lock attacks. The three hours flew by and yet I still feel I have not touched the surface of this subject – so hopefully I can get to teach a Part 2 seminar at some point soon.
I wish to give credit where it is due. The techniques I use are my interpretations of stuff I learned from my coach Nick Brooks. Also from tutorials and additional guidance from black belts Oli Geddes and Roli Delgado. I also picked up a lot of stuff watching Professor Rodrigo Cavaca, who is the original ankle lock Master!!!
